From the Causeway to Room 504, Wednesday Afternoon

A week after being checked into the hospital in Los Angeles, Wesley was free to go.

And as it turned out, Wesley was not really all that skilled at steering a wheelchair. Or... skilled at all, really. The process of transporting himself from the tip of the causeway all the way to the dorms involved quite a bit of bumping into things, a fair amount of swearing under his breath, and more than a little damage to the wheels of the damn thing.

It also took over an hour, what with the occasional (and then... less occasional) much-needed break to stop, breathe, and avoid straining the injury that was confining him to this stupid thing in the first place.

But. Eventually he made it. After, you know, swearing quite a bit to himself on the elevator ride up to the fifth floor, and bumping into quite a few walls and all of that.

It was safe to say that he he'd made more noise than intended, let's leave it at that.

[[door and post both open! and consider this your warning that if i forget to mention the chair in narrative for the next couple weeks, he is still in it, yup.]]

"That's why I don't blame you," she assured him. She glanced down at his midsection again. "Is the chair...permanent?"

"Oh! No, no, nothing like that," he said quickly. "Just a few weeks, or until I can -- er -- stand comfortably."

...maybe he shouldn't have added that part.

"You can't stand at all now?" she asked, more worry etching her face.

"Er. Well, I can -- just, ah, not terribly comfortably." Did that help at all?

[identity profile] thegirl-onfire.livejournal.com 2012-03-15 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Ish.

"What can I do to help?" she asked carefully, biting her lower lip. "I mean, when I was shot, I don't think it was this bad. Or else they just pumped me full of morphling so I don't remember it being as bad as this."

Door number two's the right one, there, Katniss.

Wesley briefly contemplated moving to join her on the bed, then thought better of it. Because... ow. Instead, he just reached for her hand. "It's all right," he assured her firmly, gently. "I've got more than enough painkillers to last me until it heals. All I'd like from you is your company, if you don't mind."

So cheesy, Wes.

She threaded her fingers through his, looking only mildly reassured. "You know me. I'm not going to be happy until I figure out how to help your recovery," she pointed out ruefully.

"It'll be fine," Wesley said again, earnestly. "I already stayed in the hospital far longer than necessary--" weren't disproportionate time differences great? -- "and it wasn't that bad an injury to begin with." Well, that wasn't true. "Really, we ought to be grateful that zombies aren't generally excellent shots."

...thanks, Wes.

"Zombies?" she repeated, eyes widening. "You said it was a demon!"

[identity profile] wesleynotponcy.livejournal.com 2012-03-15 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Riiight. Damn you, careful choice of words.

"Well," Wesley tried, "zombies are, ah, a type of demon?"

Oh, Buffyverse.

"I thought they were those dead things at Caritas," Katniss corrected.

"Well. Here, they are," he granted. "In my universe, however, 'demon' is, ah, a fairly broad term." Going for honesty here, he added, "It's just that 'zombie' tends to sound a bit more, er, alarming, so I opted for the umbrella term."

Because 'demon' sounded way less scary?
